SGS renovated this upper duplex in Cobble Hill to create a more open and modern home for a client who had grown up in the apartment and now wanted to bring it up to date for his own family, while leaving the fundamental building systems intact. The project included the removal of many walls, and a dramatic renovation of the central stair, leading to a new roof terrace with a new trellis supporting a solar array. Strategic structural renovations allowed for the expanded stair and adjoining lightwell that provides a sense of cohesion between the levels and brings abundant natural light to the lower floors. Elegant new finishes and lively colors accentuate the light-filled interiors and unify the shared spaces.
