We’re pleased to announce Amy Atzmon has been promoted to Associate. In doing so, we recognize Amy’s dedication to exceptional design and generous project leadership at our firm. Amy joined our staff in 2020 and has played a major role on a wide range of projects, from moderate interior renovations to large scale new construction. Amy’s steadfast leadership working with a variety of clients, navigating complex design challenges, and mentoring junior staff has been invaluable to the success of our office. We are excited to honor her immense contributions to the firm with this promotion. Congratulations Amy!

We are delighted that our Tres Puentes project is featured in ‘Dual Cities – Social Housing in London + New York,’ a new book published by the Royal Institute of British Architects and supported by the AIA New York Chapter, which explores social housing design and delivery through the parallel experiences of London and New York.

Opening up a new global dialogue and offering a practical guide to the past, present and future of housing, Dual Cities features commentary pieces from experts on both sides of the Atlantic unlocking policy and delivery mechanisms and includes 40 illustrated historic and contemporary housing case studies from a range of practices in both cities. We are honored to be a part of this important conversation, along with twenty-two other architecture and urban planning firms.

Named for the three bridges that connect the South Bronx to Manhattan, Tres Puentes introduced two new ground-up buildings and 175 units of affordable housing for seniors to the Mott Haven neighborhood. Tres Puentes East and West replaced an underused parking lot and open space adjacent to 

, an existing six-story building originally constructed in 1981, which we renovated in 2014. Integrated at ground level into a combined campus, the three structures constitute a vibrant, welcoming home for hundreds of seniors and a generous response to their unique urban surroundings.

SGS featured in new RIBA publication 'Dual Cities'

 reached a major milestone this past week – it topped out! This project in Rego Park, Queens is a new multi-family apartment building that will create 120 units of affordable housing.

The Woodhaven stitches together the diverse architecture of Rego Park, from single-family homes along the north edge of the site to the low-rise commercial buildings on Woodhaven Boulevard and 6-story masonry residential buildings along Alderton Street. The L-shaped site offers a unique opportunity amid this wide range of building typologies to bridge the gap between a car-centric roadway and the surrounding neighborhood with much needed density. The building’s volumes form a gentle spiral of setbacks along its two street facades; as construction continues, we’re looking forward to seeing how its brickwork will accentuate its massing with textured brick insets and other masonry details.
